SCOTTVILLE — Shelby’s balance proved to be too much for Manistee on Monday night.

The Tigers placed three players in double-figure scoring in their 53-36 victory over Manistee. The Division 3 district opener was played at Mason County Central.

Manistee gave the Tigers a fight in the first quarter, outscoring them by 9-7 when the horn sounded. But the Tigers shook it off and outscored the Chippewas, 20-15 in the second and entered the half with a 27-24 edge.
 
The Tigers couldn’t completely shake the Chippewas in the third quarter, managing only a 7-4 scoring advantage and went into the fourth quarter holding 34-28 lead. Shelby then exploded for a 19-8 run in the fourth.
 
Bishop Lee paced the Tigers with a game-high 19 points, while Wyatt Dickman tossed in 14 and Phillip Hayes finished with 10. Mason Garcia added seven. Garcia led the Tigers with seven rebounds and dished out six assists. Carson Claeys had five assists.
 
Jacob Scharp scored 14 points for the Chippewas and Ethan Edmondson contributed four. Scharp also had seven rebounds and two steals. Kayden Kott had three steals.
 
Shelby (12-11) plays at 7 p.m. Wednesday against host Mason Central (15-7).  White Cloud (12-9) faces Hesperia (4-17) in the first game at 5:30 p.m.
