MUSKEGON — A strong start sparked the Fruitport Trojans to a 78-51 victory over Muskegon Catholic on Tuesday night.

Fruitport grabbed a quick 24-9 after one quarter and led 40-25 at the half. The Trojans had a 38-26 scoring advantage in the second half.

“We were able to jump out to the early lead and be aggressive,” Fruitport coach Steve Erny said. “We had a lot of assists tonight as a team, which was a good sign. It was a balanced team effort in a lot of ways too, though, with six players scoring eight or more points.”

Muskegon Catholic (7-15) was led by Hunter Schrink with a career-high 15 points and eight rebounds. Braden Gustin added 14 points and four steals. Marcos Paredes, an exchange student from Spain with little basketball experience, scored three points.
