COOPERSVILLE – For the second straight year, Grand Haven has been tossed out of the district tournament by the Broncos.

Coopersville again pulled an upset on Monday at its home gymnasium, holding a talented Grand Haven squad to its lowest point total of the season in a 47-44 final.

Coopersville also eliminated Grand Haven a year ago in districts, 57-50.

Coopersville, which improves to 16-8 overall, advances to Wednesday’s semifinal where it will tangle with either Reeths-Puffer.

Grand Haven started the at season 9-0, but ends with a 17-7 record. 

Coopersville led 17-15 at the half.  The contest remained tight entering the fourth quarter, with the Broncos up just three at 31-28.

Senior guard Harrison Sorrelle saw his outstanding career come to an end, as he led Grand Haven with 20 points, but he was the only Buccaneer to reach double figures. Nate Stump added seven points for the Bucs, while Eli Wachter added six.

Porter Kretschman had 20 points to lead Coopersville, including four from beyond the 3-point line.  Forward Mark DeVries added 15 points for the Broncos.
