BIG RAPIDS–The Kent City Eagles opened up the Central State Activities Association Playoff Tournament with a road loss to league-leading Big Rapids on Tuesday, 61-46.

The Cardinals were in control from start to finish as they raced out to a 16-9 lead after the first eight minutes. Big Rapids went into the half with a 34-17 lead after racking up a 18-8 scoring advantage in the second stanza.

The Cardinals increased their lead to 52-29 with a 18-12 scoring edge in the third quarter. Kent City went on to post a 17-9 scoring advantage in the final eight minutes.

“They just have more athletes than us and shoot it better,” Kent City coach Dave Ingles said. “Our effort was good, but they are better. 
I’m really proud of my guys for finishing tied for second in the conference. That was a big achievement.”
 
Seth Vanderwest led Kent City with 12 points. 
 
Kent City (12-8) will be back in action Thursday at a site and opponent to be determined.
