MUSKEGON — It sure looks like the Muskegon Community College women’s basketball team is peaking at just the right time.

The Jayhawks handed first-place Mid-Michigan College its only loss in conference play with a 65-52 victory at Bartels-Rode Gymnasium.

“It was a great team win tonight,” MCC coach Jason Cooper said.  “Our defense was A-1.  This was a big win for us going into the postseason.”

In the previous meeting, the Jayhawks led by 19 at the half and lost by three in the final minutes of the game.

This time around, the Jayhawks came prepared both mentally and physically against the league leaders.

MCC led 18-12 after one quarter and 35-24 at the half. The Jayhawks were able to maintain a double-digit lead throughout the game.

Emmerson Goodin led the Lady Jayhawks with 22 points, nine rebounds, six steals and three assists. Kendall Zoulek had 18 points and seven rebounds. Calla Miller also reached double figures with 12 points. Karleigh Jeffries had nine points and 11 rebounds.

Muskegon Community College (19-8, 10-4) returns to action in the first round of regional play on Tuesday.

Mid-Michigan College has a 24-4 record, 13-1 in the league.
