MUSKEGON — A quick start and a two-goal comeback wasn’t enough for the Muskegon Lumberjacks in their 4-3 overtime loss to Dubuque at Trinity Health Arena on Friday.
Muskegon jumped out to an early 1-0 lead on Joe Connor’s first goal as a Lumberjack.
Dubuque responded with three straight goals for a 3-1 lead that carried it into the third period.
Jake Sondreal put the Fighting Saints on the board with just three seconds remaining in the first period. Max Burkholder opened the second period with a goal that came 1:30 in. Max Montes put Dubuque up 3-1 with the opening goal of the third period.
Penalties hurt Muskegon during that stretch, giving up power-play goals on Dubuques’ first two tallies.
Muskegon’s Owen Keefe started the Lumberjacks’ rally in the third period. Keefe tallied his second goal of the season for a 3-2 deficit. Ty Henderik followed up 10 seconds later to tie the score for Muskegon.
In overtime, Montes tallied the game winner on another power play barely 2 minutes into the extra period.
Dubuque outshot Muskegon 36-25 as Lumberjacks’ goalie Raythan Robbins took the loss with 32 saves.
