MONTAGUE — Ty Maitland blocked a shot as time expired to preserve the Oakridge Eagles’ 44-43 victory over the host Montague Wildcats on Thursday night.

“Ty Maitland played a great second half to help the Eagles come back and win,” Oakridge coach Tracy Ruel said. Maitland scored nine points, pulled down seven rebounds and had three blocked shots.

Montague  led 15-9 after one quarter and 25-17 at the half. However, in the pivotal second half, the Eagles went to work on defense. In the third quarter, the Eagles outscored the Wildcats 15-5 to take a 32-30 lead into the fourth quarter.

Peyton Ruel led Oakridge with 15 points and Evan Miller had 12.

Owen Raeth led Montague with 15 points and eight rebounds. Kade Johnson and Rodney Brassfield had eight points each. Brassfield  pulled down 11 rebounds and Johnson had seven.

Oakridge opens Division 2 district play at 7 p.m. Monday when it hosts Orchard View.
 
Montague travels to Fruitport for a 7 p.m. game on Monday.
