FREMONT–Fremont senior Jordon McDonald recently became the ninth player in program history to reach the 1,000-point career milestone.

McDonald topped the plateau in a game on March 2 against Manistee.

When he hit the historic basket midway through the fourth quarter, the game was halted briefly and McDonald was summoned to the sideline where his teammates gathered. Several banners bearing the words “1,000 points Jordan McDonald” were unfurled.

McDonald and his Packer teammates defeated Sparta on Friday evening, 57-55, to capture a hard-fought Division 2 district championship title.

Fremont (13-11) will take on Hudsonville Unity Christian (16-9) in a semifinal regional game at Unity Christian at 5:30 p.m. Monday.

The 6-3 senior is a three-year varsity player at Fremont and the focal point of the offense.

McDonald averages 20.1 points per game and grabs 7.6 rebounds per game. He averages 2.4 steals per game along with 1.5 blocked shots.

“It was a great accomplishment when Jordon reached 1,000 points.” said Fremont coach Adam Bowen. “His brother, Braiden, also reached the 1,000-point plateau.”

The school record is held by Jeremy Gerth with 1,512.  Jordon is currently at 1,067 points. Bowen said that mark ranks about sixth.

McDonald has yet to decide his future college plans. He maintains a 3.7 grade-point-average.

“I think schools are sleeping on him which is a mistake,” said Bowen. “He is a great player and definitely good enough to play at the next level at a number of schools.

“I can’t say enough good things about what kind of student athlete Jordon is,” Bowen said. “He is a hard worker, very coachable, a great teammate, humble, and just an amazing kid.  He has meant so much to our team and our program over the past 4 years.  His work ethic, dedication, and team first mentality are qualities that have made it an absolute pleasure to coach him.”
