NORTON SHORES–The Muskegon Lady Big Reds ran into a red-hot team on Tuesday night in the regional semifinal round.

Byron Center came into the game with a 19-game winning streak and left with a 62-43 victory over the Big Reds.

The Muskegon defense didn’t have any answers for the Bulldogs’ Lillian Zeinstra as she scored a game-high 26 points and her teammate McKenna Ferguson poured 21 points in a game played at the Sailor Center at Mona Shores High School.

The Bulldogs capitalized at the free throw line by making 24-of-34 shots, while Muskegon was just 9-of-15.

Byron Center jumped out to a 16-11 lead after one quarter. Zainstra led the Bulldogs with eight points in the period.

Byron Center increased its lead during the second stanza by outscoring the Lady Big Reds 20-16 to take a 36-27 lead into halftime. Zainstra scored 11 more points in the second quarter to lead the Bulldogs surge.

Byron Center added to their lead in the third period with a 12-6 scoring edge and carried a 48-33 lead heading into the fourth quarter.

The Bulldogs closed out the final eight minutes with a 14-1o scoring margin.

Muskegon finished with a 17-8 record, 12-2 in the OK Conference-Green. That was good for the runner-up position behind Reeths-Puffer.

Byron Center (22-3) will take on Rockford (24-1) for the regional title at 7 p.m. Thursday at Mona Shores.
