RAVENNA–The Ravenna softball team defeated the Sparta Spartans in a non-league doubleheader to open its season.
In Game 1, Ravenna defeated Sparta 14-0 in 5 innings. Emma Gillard picked up the win for the Bulldogs. She allowed one hit and struck out four. Leading hitters for Ravenna were Emma Herremans and Addison Gillard with two hits, one a double, Kara Postema with two hits. Emily Postema had a triple.
In the nightcap, the Bulldogs defeated the Spartans 15-0 in four innings. Addison Gillard pitched a no hitter for the Bulldogs with 7 strikeouts and 1 walk. Leading hitters for Ravenna were Gillard with three hits, one a home run, Herremans with three hits and Postema with two hits, including a triple. Riley Homoly and Ellie Solem also added a pair of hits.
