GRAND RAPIDS – Reeths-Puffer’s girls basketball team saw its postseason hopes dashed in heartbreaking fashion on Wednesday in a 42-41 decision to host Kenowa Hills in the Division 1 district semifinals. 

The Rockets, which finish their season with an 18-6 record, had a 34-27 lead after three quarters, but the Knights shocked them in the fourth with a 15-7 scoring margin.

Kenowa Hills advances to Friday’s district championship game against Muskegon, which beat Grand Haven by 12 in the earlier semifinal contest. 

Ariel Walker had 12 points, two assists and three steals, but she was the only Rockets player to reach double figures in scoring. Billie Tryska contributed nine points and five rebounds for Puffer, while Sophia Hekkema totaled seven points, four rebounds and three assists.

Irelyn Niklasch led the Rockets with seven rebounds and also scored five points. 

Adrianna Marsiglia had 14 points and nine rebounds, while Melanin Holman added 13 points in just 17 minutes for the Knights, which improved to 16-8 overall.
