GRAND RAPIDS–Muskegon Lady Big Reds’ freshman Mariah Sain scored a game high 25 points and led Muskegon to a 70-41 victory over host Grand Rapids Kenowa Hills.

The Big Reds used a 30-9 scoring surge in the final quarter to advance to next week’s Division 1 regional  tournament.

Sain had some help from her teammates as eight Lady Big Reds found the scoring column. Senior Ty’Veonna Davis tossed in 17 points and sophomore Bre’Asia Gamble-Jones scored 16 points.

Muskegon held a slim 14-13 lead after the first eight minutes of action. Davis scored eight points for the Big Reds.

Muskegon went into the half with a 28-20 lead. Davis and Gamble-Jones led the second-quarter surge each scoring with five points.

The Knights and Big Reds each put up 12 points in the third period as Sain scored six points and the Lady Big Reds headed into the fourth quarter with a 40-32 lead.

Sain scored 10 points during the final eight minutes and Gamble-Jones put up eight points as Muskegon put the Knights away.

Ella Thayer led Kenowa Hills with 14 points while Adrianna Mardiglia tossed in nine points.

Muskegon (17-7) will now move on to regional action to face Byron Center (21-3) at 7 p.m. Tuesday evening at Mona Shores High School.
