WHITEHALL — The host Whitehall Vikings are on a roll heading into next week’s district tournament and that includes Camden Thompson.

On Thursday, the Vikings fended off a strong challenge from the Orchard View Cardinals and earned a 70-57 victory.

Whitehall led 20-19 at the first stop and 35-32 at the half. In the third quarter, Whitehall put a little distance between inself and OV with an 18-12 scoring advantage. Whitehall led 53-44 after three quarters.

Thompson poured in 26 points and pulled down 20 rebounds, including 10 on the offensive end, to lead the Vikings. He also had six assists and three blocks. Trannon Aylor added 14 points and Kyle Stratton had eight.

Whitehall heads into Division 2 district action at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Fruitport against the winner of Monday’s game between Fruitport and Montague.

Orchard View travels to Oakridge on Monday for its district opener.
