CALEDONIA –The Mona Shores boys lacrosse team found themselves in a battle against Caledonia in league action on Tuesday evening.

In the end, the Sailors squeaked by Caledonia, 13-12.

“We made adjustments and tried new strategies, but this was just pure willpower and an inability to give up by our athletes,” said Mona Shores coach Murle Greer. “They stayed calm, focused, supportive and took it one goal at a time.”

Early mistakes and struggles with possessions put the Sailors down 7-1.

The Sailors made some adjustments and made up some distance to roll into the half down, 8-6.

The fight continued into the second half as Caledonia slightly stretched their lead again, but the Sailors hung in there.

The fourth quarter was all about the Sailors as they turned up the heat with a 6-1 scoring run that led to the victory.

Senior Luke Beilhartz netted his second goal of the night with 13 seconds left to play off of a pass from senior Brayton Conrad that proved to be the game-winning goal.

Junior Dylan Fett, sophomore Ezra Carefelle and senior JJ Boos also each added a pair of goals.

Junior Andrew Baker led on the defensive end as he caused four turnovers.

“We still aren’t playing the most polished lacrosse, but we don’t give up and that is something to be very proud of,” Greer said.

Mona Shores (5-1, 3-0) will host Zeeland on Thursday.
