MUSKEGON — Four straight goals were too many to handle for the Muskegon Lumberjacks in their 5-2 loss to Madison at Trinity Health Arena on Saturday night.
Muskegon allowed the Capitols to build a 3-0 lead after the first period and a 4-0 advantage, three minutes into the second.
Madison’s Andrew Kuzma started the scoring in both periods while Max Nagel made it a 2-0 lead and Jack Brandt gave the Capitols a 3-0 edge with 12 minutes left in the second period.
Muskegon found a break with a Gavin McCarthy goal off a Nick Wallace assist almost seven minutes into the second period. The moment was not enough as the Lumberjacks failed to find the net the rest of the period.
Madison notched its final goal of the night in the third period on an Ethan Fredericks tally.
Finn Brink was able to find the net for Muskegon with 19 seconds remaining, his second goal in two nights.
Sebastian Gatto took the loss in net for Muskegon, making 14 saves on 18 shots. Raythan Robbins came in relief and stopped all eight shots he faced. The Lumberjacks outshot Madison 30-27. Â
Muskegon closes out its season next weekend at home when it hosts Chicago on April 21 and 22.
