HART — Hart lost a non-conference baseball doubleheader to Evart, 6-5 and 10-2, Thursday in the Pirates’ season opener.

With the game tied, 5-5 in the top of the seventh inning, Evart was able to plate what proved to be the game-winning run.

Blake Weirich took the loss for the Pirates. He pitched four innings with five strikeouts and gave up three earned runs.

Carter Ramseyer came on in relief and pitched 1 1/3 innings and surrendered one earned run and struck out two.

Leading hitters for the Pirates included Ty Schlukebir, who had two hits, drove in two runs and scored once, Tyler VanderZanden with one hit and one run scored and Elan Sawdy with one hit, one run scored and one RBI.

In the nightcap, Evart plated all 10 of its runs in the first inning and the Pirates couldn’t overcome that. Hart scored its two runs in the fourth inning.

Weirich ripped a double for the Pirates.
