HART — The Hart girls soccer team has come a long way in a year when it comes to taking on the Oakridge Eagles.

A year ago, Hart lost to Oakridge 7-1, but showed how much it has improved Monday with a rugged 1-1 tie at home.

Oakridge cracked through the Pirates’ defense for a goal with less than 22 minutes left in the first half to take the lead. Hart struggled to connect on passes and string a combination of plays together.

While the defense battled to ward off several waves of attacks from the Eagles at the onset of the second half, the offense started to click.

But a shot by sophomore Brianna Arjona in the 6-yard box didn’t have enough on it to get past the keeper. That did not deter the Pirates.

Hart finally scored the equalizer with nine minutes remaining in the contest, Devyn Adams and Brooklyn Storms forced a turnover at the backline. Adams picked the ball up and drove towards the goal, slotting a pass through for Salgado, who made a touch by the Oakridge keeper to make it 1-1.

Hart (1-3-2, 0-2-1 WMC) is scheduled to host Ravenna in a conference game Wednesday.

Oakridge (3-4-1, 1-2-1 WMC) was supposed to play Grand Rapids Covenant Christian on Wednesday, but that game was canceled. The Eagles will travel to North Muskegon for its next game.
