HART — Hart’s softball team scored an 8-7 walk-off victory over Onekama in the opener of Thursday’s non-conference doubleheader, and then finished the nightcap with a 12-12 tie to kick off the new season.

In the first game the score was tied, 7-7 with the Pirates batting in the bottom of the sixth when Makenna Carrier hit a sacrifice fly that knocked in the winning run.
 
Gabbryella Schmieding earned the victory in the pitcher’s circle for the Pirates. The righthander surrendered four runs on two hits over five innings, striking out 10. Addison Schiller threw one inning in relief.
 
Abby Hicks smashed a home run for the Pirates in the fourth inning and was 3-for-4 at the plate.
 
The Pirates finished with just four hits.
 
In the second game, Onekama tied the score on a bases loaded walk in the fifth inning.
 
Hart, which had a big five-run second inning, collected a total of nine hits in the contest with Kelsey Copenhaver, Makayla Rockwell, and Schmieding each having multiple hit games.
 
Hart (1-0-1) will be back in action next Tuesday when they host Whitehall.
