MUSKEGON — An opportunistic offense backed by solid pitching combined to lift the Ludington baseball team to a West Michigan Conference Lakes Division doubleheader at Orchard View, 12-5 and 13-3 Tuesday.

“Tonight was just a solid night overall,” said Ludington coach Evan Kroeze. “Pitching-wise, Johnny (Weinert) and Nathan (Dillehay) did a great job filling up the zone and letting the defense work for them.

“Offensively, we have been growing every game, and tonight was more of the same. I thought we had a great approach at the plate, attacking our pitch when we got it. There were major contributions from 1-9 in the lineup.”

Dillehay was on the mound in the opener and struck out four and allowed four earned runs over six innings.

Weinert led the offense, going 3-for-5 with three RBI and scored one run. Evan McCarthy finished 2-for-4 with two runs scored and Matthew Westhouse went 1-for-4 with two walks and drove in a pair.

In the nightcap, Weinert took the hill and pitched all five innings (the game was called because of the 10-run mercy rule). He allowed two earned runs and fanned three.

At the plate, Weinert was 2-for-3 with three walks, two RBI and two runs scored while Ryan Kandelac went 2-for-3 with one RBI and a run scored.

Ludington (4-5 overall, 3-3 WMC Lakes) is scheduled to host Spring Lake in another conference twin bill Friday at Don Stokely Field.

Orchard View (0-11 overall, 0-3-1 WMC Lakes) plays Friday at Shelby.
