MUSKEGON — It didn’t take long for the Mona Shores’ baseball team to dispatch Grand Rapids Union in a doubleheader on Tuesday.

The Sailors won the opener 16-0 in three innings and the nightcap 14-1 in five innings.

In the opener, Trevor Cunningham got the complete game shutout with two hits allowed in three innings. He struck out seven.
 
The Sailors bats erupted for 11 runs in the first inning and never looked back.  Javanni Johnson blasted a two-run home run in the first inning for his first of the season.  Isaac Habetler added his first home run of the season with a blast to left in the second inning.  The Sailors were led by Ethan Ring with three hits.  Jaxon Huffman had a triple and drove in three runs.  
 
In the second game Brady Recknagel tossed the complete game for the Sailors. He struck out 10 and allowed two hits.
 
The Sailors’ bats picked right back up where they left off from Game 1 by scoring six times in the bottom of the first.  The Sailors pounded out 16 hits. Huffman led the Shores offensive attack in with three hits, one a home run, and three RBI. Johnson and Habetler each had three hits.  Nathan Opfermann had two hits, including his first varsity hit.
 
The Sailors (12-2, 7-1) travel to GR Union on Thursday for the third and final game of the three-game set.
