NEWAYGO — Three goals in the second half lifted the Newaygo Lions to a 3-2 soccer victory over Shelby on Friday.

The Lions got on the board eight minutes into the second half. Later, Grace Painter and Connelly Hefferan scored goals for the Lions. Hefferan’s goal came with 16 minutes remaining off an assist from Nord Lund. That goal proved to be the game winner.

Kendall Zaverl scored both of Shelby’s goals.

Newaygo (4-0-1) hosts Chippewa Hills on Monday.

The Tigers (4-4) travel to Manistee for a West Michigan Conference game on Monday.
