WYOMING – The Reeths-Puffer girls’ soccer team battled the weather but still came home with an 8-0 victory over Wyoming on Monday.

The Rockets scored their eighth goal four minutes into the seccond half to trigger the mercy rule in the OK-Green match.

“It was nasty conditions,” said Reeths-Puffer coach Kody Harrell. “Not ideal weather and you could tell we were a bit stiff and flat. The game was moved up a half an hour so that changed our pre-game routine.”

The Rockets got warmed up quickly and took control of the game.

“We are just happy to come away with a win regardless of the score,” Harrell said. “Everyone came out healthy and we were able to continue to work on some things and give the girls opportunities.”

Sophia Hekkema led the Rockets with a hat trick while Billie Tryska netted a pair of goals.

Alyssa Herbert and Taeah Rensberger each added a goal. Puffer’s other goal was an ‘own goal’ by Wyoming.

Goalkeepers Ava Klopp and Brenna Ackerman combined in the net for the shutout.

Reeths-Puffer (5-1-1, 3-0) has a conference matchup against Zeeland East on Thursday.
