GRAND RAPIDS — The Spring Lake Lakers ran into a buzzsaw on Thursday and dropped a 12-2 baseball decision to Grand Rapids West Catholic.
 
The Falcons finished with 13 hits and scored four runs in the first inning, two in the second and six more in the bottom of the fifth that ended the game.
 
Spring Lake got off to a promising as Zach Schlepp led off the game with a triple and scored on an Oliver Smies sacrifice fly. Zane Stahl then doubled and scored on an Owen Smies RBI single. Stahl had two hits for the Lakers (2-1, 2-1).
 
That was the last time the Lakers scored.  Stahl had two hits for Spring Lake.
 
Spring Lake hosts West Michigan Christian Friday in a doubleheader starting at 4 p.m.
