SPRING LAKE — The Spring Lake Lakers were not intimidated in the least by the lofty state ranking of Grand Rapids West Catholic.

Instead, the Laker swept the Falcons in an OK-Blue twinbill. Spring Lake won the opener 5-2 and the nightcap, 4-0. West Catholic came into the contest ranked No. 3 in the coaches’ preseason poll in Division 3.

Zane Stahl pitched a complete game one-hitter in the opener for the Lakers. He struck out 12, allowed three hits and one earned run. Stahl and Gerrit Lyyski each belted solo home runs in the fifth inning. Both finished with two hits.

Lyyski pitched the nightcap and allowed one hit, an infield single. He struck out 12 in six innings of work. Owen Smies had two hits to lead the Lakers.
 
Spring Lake (2-0, 2-0) travels to West Catholic (0-4) Thursday for a single game beginning at 4:15 p.m.
