WHITE CLOUD–White Cloud senior Gaby Reeve recently signed her national letter of intent to continue her basketball career next fall at Muskegon Community College.

The signing took place at White Cloud High School.

Reeve, who has only two years of varsity basketball experience, led the Indians to an 8-13 record this past season. She averaged 11.5 points and 7.6 rebounds per game. During her varsity career, she saw action at the power forward and center positions.

Muskegon Community College coach Jason Cooper continues to recruit the local ranks for quality talent as Reeve will join a Jayhawks squad that already consists of former Newaygo athletes Emmerson Goodin and Kayla Fisk along with Haley Zerlaut from Fremont and Kendall Zoulek from Shelby. All made valuable contributions to the Jayhawks this past season as freshmen.

Reeve has also participated in varsity track and field, cross country and volleyball.

Reeve almost bolted for Virginia to continue her sports career in college until the Jayhawks made contact with her. Once that happened, her plans changed to stay closer to home.

“My decision to attend Muskegon Community College was a pretty late decision,” said Reeve. “Originally, I planned on going to school in Virginia and doing track and field at the collegiate level. However, my plans changed when I was contacted by the MCC coaching staff. After meeting and talking with coach Cooper and Coach (Rachel) Kent, I knew that this was what I wanted to do. This is my opportunity to carry out something I have dreamed about since elementary school.”

Now that her athletic career is coming to a close at White Cloud, Reeve looked back on her time as an Indians career as a student-athlete.

“One of the biggest lessons I have learned from my coaches and teammates at White Cloud is that the goal of sports should never be perfection,” she said. “The goal should be to always put forth your best effort and accept the fact that your best effort looks different day-to-day. I have always struggled with accepting that I will make mistakes every time I play.”

Reeve plans to major in kinesiology/exercise science and minor in neuroscience or biology.

Gaby is the daughter of Tod and Tonia Reeve. She has a 4.275 grade-point-average.
