MONTAGUE — Solid pitching carried that day on Tuesday as the Whitehall Viking and Montague Wildcats split a West Michigan Conference doubleheader.

Whitehall won the first game, 4-3 and Montague took the nightcap, 3-2.

In the opener, Whitehall scored the winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning. Kyle Stratton had three hits and scored two runs. Isaac VanAmberg had three hits.

Bryton Bellinger had a triple for Montague.

In the second game, Montague scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth and limited Whitehall to one run in the top of the seventh and hung on for the victory.

Owen Petersen pitched five innings and Nick Moss pitched the final two for the Wildcats. Kade Johnson had a triple for the Wildcats.

Brock Morningstar had a pair of hits for Whitehall.
