With Clemence leading the way, Fremont blanks Manistee in soccer

FREMONT — Mia Clemence scored a hat trick Thursday to lead the Fremont girls’ soccer team in a 7-0 West Michigan Conference win over visiting Manistee.

It was the makeup from a game originally scheduled for Wednesday.
 
The Packers built a 3-0 lead by the half, and then knocked in four more goals in the second. They outshot the previously undefeated Chippewas 14-6.
 
Riley Chase followed with two goals, while Maddie Mater and Bethany Geeting tallied one apiece. Chase also had three assists for five points on the day, while Clemence added two.
 
Kate Mellema was in net for the Packers and turned away six shots by the Chippewas.
 
Piper Eskridge, the Chippewas’ sophomore keeper, also had six saves.
 
Fremont improved to 4-2-1 overall and 1-1 in the conference. The Packers are scheduled to be back in action Friday at Howard City Tri-County.
 
Manistee (4-1, 1-1) hosts Reed City on Friday.
