SHELBY — Kendall Zaverl recorded a hat trick as the Shelby girls’ soccer team shut out visiting Ravenna 3-0 in a West Michigan Conference game Wednesday.
Both teams not only had to battle each other, but adverse weather conditions with rain, wind and cold.
Zaverl punched in the first goal 18 minutes into the first half that was assisted by Hannah Frees.
She scored again with nine minutes remaining before the intermission, with Alyse Erickson providing the assist. Shelby had a 2-0 lead at the half.
Shelby took just two minutes of the second half to get on the board again, this time with an unassisted goal.
Lightning then halted the game with 25 minutes left, and after multiple delays, the game was called.
The Tigers (4-3) are next scheduled to make a trip to Newaygo on Friday.
Ravenna (1-2-1) is at Grand Rapids Covenant Christian on Thursday.
