MONTAGUE–Things got a little wild on Wednesday when the Fremont Packers and Montague Wildcats hooked up for a softball doubleheader.

In the opener, Fremont led 11-0 in the third inning, but Montague stormed back for a 19-18 victory. The Packers won the nightcap, 12-1 to earn a split.

In the first game, Fremont committed 12 errors and that aided Montague in its comeback. Mckenzie Gugins had four for Fremont. That included a home run and three singles. Hanna Mele, Elise Pfeiffer, Sage Vandenberd and Izabel Autin each knocked in a run in the sixth inning.

Montague scored nine runs in the sixth inning. Kiara Mikkelsen, Kennedy Jonson, Regan Cederquist, Natalie Kellogg, Kayden Johnson and Chloe Boutell, all drove in runs that inning. 

In the second game, Fremont started pulling away with three runs in the second inning. Vandenberd, Rainee Dey-Rayl, Romine, Izabel Austin and Gugins each had multiple hits for the Packers, which had 13 hits and stole six bases.

Jonson led Montague with a pair of hits.
