MUSKEGON — Flexing its offensive muscle at the plate, the Hart girls’ softball team overwhelmed Orchard View in a convincing doubleheader sweep Thursday night, 19-2 and 26-18.

Gabby Quijas picked up the win on the mound in the opener, giving up four hits and striking out two. Both of the Cardinals’ runs were unearned. The game was stopped after three innings.

Gabby Schmieding led the way at the plate with three hits, including a double. Kelsey Copenhaver, Abby Hicks, and Makenna Carrier all had two hits apiece.

InĀ  the nightcap, the Pirates struggled on defense once again and continued to give the Cardinals extra outs to hang in the game.

Copenhaver turned two unassisted double plays at first base, while Hicks had a few nice stops at shortstop.

Schmieding pitched the first 2 1/3 innings, giving up 10 runs (one earned) on two hits, six walks, and one strikeout.

Quijas got the win in the circle finishing the game. She gave up six hits and one walk. She struck out two. Of nine runs scored while she was the mound was earned.

Hart travels to Ravenna for a West Michigan Conference Rivers Division doubleheader Wednesday.

Orchard View was scheduled to travel to Spring Lake today.
