MUSKEGON — Mona Shores’ standout Jaxon Huffman added his name into the Sailor baseball record book on Thursday.

With his eighth and ninth home runs of the season, Huffman tied the single-season record for homers for the tradition-rich Mona Shores baseball program.

The Sailors defeated Reeths-Puffer, 10-1.

Huffman scored two runs and had three RBI. His first-inning, two-run homer was all the runs the Sailors needed to win the game.

Javanni Johnson pitched a gem for the Sailors. He allowed four hits and one unearned run. He had seven strikeouts.

Johnson helped his own cause with two hits, including a bases-clearing double. Brady Recknagel also had three hits for the Sailors. He also knocked in one run. Zach Keessen and Bryson Belanger each had two hits.

Kyle Schlaff had two hits for the Rockets and Trent Reichert added a double.

Mona Shores improves to 20-7 overall, 13-5 in the league.

Reeths-Puffer will face Montague at 10 a.m. Saturday at LMCU Ballpark, home of the West Michigan Whitecaps, for a doubleheader.
