CENTRAL MONTCALM — The Kent City Eagles won both of their softball games in a round-robin tournament at Central Montcalm on Saturday.

In the first game, Kent City defeated Merrill, 9-4. In the second game, the Eagles defeated host Central Montcalm, 9-8.

In the opener, Lexie Bowers and Laynee Hoffman each had three hits.  Bowers had a double and two RBI while Hoffman knocked in two runs. Lylah Larson pitched a complete game and allowed one earned run and struck out five.

In the second game, Jaycee Hoffman delivered a bases-loaded double in the fourth inning that put the Eagles up, 6-1. From there, the Eagles withstood a Central Montcalm, whose comeback in the bottom of the seventh inning came up one run short.

Bowers had one hit, two walks and scored four runs. Hannah Stellini had two RBI.

Kent City had just three hits, but was aided by eight walks and four Central Montcalm errors.

Jacee Hoffman pitched seven innings, allowed 11 hits and struck out seven.
