NORTON SHORES – The Mona Shores girls lacrosse team earned a regional win on Wednesday evening wot a 13-6 victory over Holland West Ottawa.

“We played West Ottawa in our regular-season finale two weeks ago and it was a tight one,” said Mona Shores coach Chip Vasquez. “Tonight, we jumped on them right from the get-go.”

The defense was crucial as turnovers turned into fast breaks that set up points.

“Good transition starts with everyone, but making the right decisions and moving the ball at the right time is the recipe for success,” said Vasquez.

Lainee Carmean led the way with a hat trick and three draw controls. Kennedy Hynde and Allison Fritz added three goals apiece.

Emma Reelman netted two goals while Reese Smith and Danika Johnson each chipped in a goal.

“I think we are peaking at the right time,” said Vasquez. “Tough test ahead of us, but I think we’re ready.”

Mona Shores will travel to top-ranked Forest Hills Northern/Eastern on Wednesday in the next round of regionals.
