MUSKEGON — The Mona Shores Sailors earned a place in the Division 1 district softball tournament with a 6-2 pre-district victory over Reeths-Puffer on Thursday.
 
Grace Michelli went the distance for the Sailors. She allowed seven hits and struck out three.
 
Maggie McCarthy had a pair of hits and Michelli added a two-run homer. 
 
Shores fell behind 2-0 by the fifth inning with Michelli and Rocket pitcher Maddie Snyder matching one another pitch for pitch.
 
The Sailors scored six runs in the pivotal fifth inning on the strength of Michelli’s home run.
 
Reeths-Puffer had the bases loaded with two out in the top of the seventh, but a fly ball to right field was caught for the final out.
 
Mona Shores will take on Kenowa Hills at 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 3 in district action.
