ZEELAND — Mona Shores used dominant pitching on Wednesday to sweep a conference baseball doubleheader from host Zeeland West.

Jaxon Huffman dominated the opener and Javanni Johnson was strong on the mound and at the plate in the second game. Shores won the opener, 1-0, and the nightcap, 5-4.

In the first game, Huffman allowed one hit and one walk while striking out 14 in a complete-game performance.

The game’s lone run was scored in the fourth when Huffman reached on an error and gave way to courtesy runner Liam Gosset. He eventually scored on a wild pitch.

In the nightcap, not only did Johnson pick up the win on the mound, but he launched two home runs and knocked in four of the Sailors’ five runs.

Jaden Thomas had two hits, one a double, and drove in the Sailors’ fifth run. Bryson Belanger and Zach Keesen each had two hits.

On the mound, Johnson allowed one earned run on six hits and five strikeouts. Ethan Ring came on in relief and picked up the save.

Mona Shores (15-2, 10-1) will hosts Zeeland West in a single game at 4:15 p.m. Thursday.
