BYRON CENTER — The Ravenna Bulldogs faced some stuff competition on Saturday in the Blue Chip Softball Tournament.

At Whistlestop Park in Byron Center, the Bulldogs finished 1-2. Ravenna lost 6-5 in the opener to Zeeland West then fell 6-5 to Hudsonville Unity Christian. In the final game, the Bulldogs defeated Shepherd, 15-3.

Addison Gillard took the loss on the mound for Ravenna in the first game. She allowed six runs on 11 hits. She had three walks and eight strikeouts.

Emma Gillard was the leading hitter with three hits, one a triple. Emma Herremans had two hits, including a home run. Kendra Denhof also had two hits.

In Game 2, pitcher Emma Gillard took the loss on the mound. She allowed three runs on four hits and had eight strikeouts. Addison Gillard came on and allowed three runs on three hits and struck out three.
 
Emma Gillard and Kara Postema each had a double and a single. Herremans had two singles. Riley Homoly had a home run.
 
In the final game of the day, Emma Gillard was the winning pitcher after allowing three runs on five hits. She had two strikeouts.
