ZEELAND — Jaxon Whitaker pitched a solid game in the nightcap of Tuesday night’s doubleheader and earned the Reeths-Puffer Rockets a split with Zeeland West.

In the opener, Zeeland West captured an 11-2 victory. Colton Bessinger, in his second start of the season, gave up no walks and struck out three, but Zeeland West’s potent bats carried them to the victory. David Wilhelm, Lukas Johnson, Trent Reichert, Garrett Chesney, Kyle Schlaff and Quinn Alderink had single hits for the Rockets.

In the nightcap, Whitaker allowed three hits and struck out 11 in the Rockets’ 6-3 victory. The bats came alive in the nightcap, led by Reichert with three hits. Wilhelm and Johnson had two hits each. Johnson belted his first home run, a three-run shot.
