GRANDVILLE–Three local teams failed to qualify for the MHSAA Division 1 golf state finals on Tuesday.

Grand Haven, Mona Shores and Reeths-Puffer all took part in the boys Division 1 regional action at Sunnybrook Country Club in Grandville.

Mona Shores made a run to qualify as a team with a 324 to finish in a third-place tie with Byron Center, however, lost on a fifth man tiebreaker. Grand Haven came in fifth place by shooting a round of 329 while Reeths-Puffer finished with a round of 356, which was good for 15th place.

Portage Central took home the regional title with a round of 306. Mattawan came in second place with a 318.

Grand Haven sophomore Luke Berry finished in the top ten and a fourth-place tie at 75. Mona Shores senior Nico Taylor finished in a four-way tie for seventh place with a 78.

“It was a great first year of learning for me,” said Reeths-Puffer golf coach Matt Pallett. “I am very appreciative of my three seniors. They are great people who were also great teammates. We now know where we are at as a program and we will have to get to work to accomplish bigger goals in future seasons.”
