GRAND RAPIDS — North Muskegon broke out the big bats on Monday and swept Covenant Christian in a non-league doubleheader on Monday. The Norsemen pitching wasn’t too bad either as NM won the opener, 9-1 and the nightcap, 16-1.

In the opener, sophomore Jaxon Bean pitched a complete game and allowed one run on five hits. He struck out seven and walked three.

Leading hitters were Denny Belmonte and Carson Moat with three hits each. Belmonte had two doubles, scored four runs and knocked in one run. Moat had a double and an RBI. Ben Meyers, a junior, had two hits, including a home run, three runs scored and three RBI. Sam Gallo had two hits and two RBI.

In the second game, freshman Logan Slimko pitched 5 1/3 innings and all 16 outs were by strikeout. He allowed two hits, one run and he walked four.

Senior Troy McManus had four hits, including two doubles, scored four runs and knocked in three runs. Belmonte, Meyers and Carter Meiler each had three hits. Belmonte had two doubles and three RBI, Meiler had two RBI and Meyers had a double and scored twice. TJ Byard had two hits and scored twice.
