SPRING LAKE — The Spring Lake Lakers finally got what they’ve been searching for this baseball season.

The wait is over for a breakout game and it happened on Thursday in a 13-1 victory over the Coopersville Broncos.

Coopersville scored a single run in the top of the first inning, but the Lakers’ answer came in the form of eight runs in the second inning and five in the fourth. The game ended after Coopersville batted in the top of the fifth due to the 10-run rule.

On Senior Night, the Lakers’ four seniors contributed heavily to the victory. Gerrit Lyyski had three hits, scored three runs and belted his fifth home run of the season. Fellow senior Derrick Paggeot had three RBIs and two diving catches from his centerfield position. Senior catcher Gabe May chipped in a two-run single. Senior second baseman Carter Ball had a solid game defensively.

Ryan Grimm turned in a complete-game performance. He allowed three hits and improved his season record on the mound to 6-0.

Spring Lake (16-13, 11-10 in the OK-Blue) will host Orchard View in a pre-district game at 5 p.m. Tuesday.
