WHITEHALL — The host Whitehall Vikings survived two close games on Monday and swept the Fremont Packers in a softball twinbill.

Whitehall won the first game, 6-5, and the second game, 9-6.

In the opener, Fremon made a strong push in the top of the seventh inning to pull within a single run.

Megan LeaTrea and Kierra Hyrns led Whitehall with two hits each. Hyrns’ hits were both doubles. Annabel Kevwich and Harper Leon also had two hits each. Senior Hailey Carnes had two RBI. LeaTrea pitched a complete game for her seventh win on the season, giving up three earned runs and striking out five.

In the nightcap, Leon belted a three-run homer in the sixth inning to spark Whitehall.

Whitehall led 3-0 in the fourth, but the Packers gained the lead with four runs of their own. Whitehall bounced back with two runs in the fifth to regain the lead. After Fremont tied the game, the Vikings scored four runs. Leon’s two-out homer was the first of her career.

Senior Onnyka Dempsey led the team with three hits, one a double, and an RBI. LeaTrea added two hits. Ottinger had her second double of the night.

Lucy Tucker started the game and pitched three strong innings. LeaTrea returned to pitch the final four innings for the win.

The Vikings move to 7-1 in the conference and take on Oakridge in a makeup game on Wednesday.
