MUSKEGON — The Muskegon Clippers improved to 2-0 on the young season on Wednesday with a 9-2 victory over Jet Box at Marsh Field.

The offense scored nine runs on nine hits and four Clipper pitchers combined to allow a single run to the visitors from Detroit.

The teams will finish off their three-game series at 7:05 p.m. Thursday at Marsh Field.

On Wednesday, the Clippers got off to a fast start with three runs in the opening inning, highlighted by a two-run single by Braden Benton.

Muskegon put up two more runs in the fourth. One run scored on an error and one on an Aaron Piasecki base hit.

The Clippers plated a single run in the fifth on an RBI single by Colin Cornwell.

Two wild pitches and a run-scoring double by Cornwell led to three more runs in the sixth inning for the Clippers.

Brandon Schuerer, Benton and Cornwell each finished with two hits for the Clippers. Schuerer scored three runs while Benton and Cornwell each had two RBI.

DJ Thompson was the starting pitcher and went 4 1/3 innings. He allowed the one run, walked three and struck out six. He was followed by Gavin Sitarz, who pitched 1 2/3 innings, Ben Alderson, who pitched one inning and Blake Gedrich, who worked the final two innings.

Collin Priest had two hits to lead Jet Box.

Thomas Sylvester took the loss on the mound for Jet Box.
