NEWAYGO — Spring Lake jumped out early and were never threatened on Wednesday in a 10-3 Division 2 regional baseball victory over the host Newaygo Lions.

The Lakers scored three in the first, one in the fourth and four insurance runs in the sixth to advance to Saturday’s regional final game. Spring Lake will take on host Petoskey at 10 a.m. Petoskey defeated Sault St. Marie 9-1 in its regional semifinal game.

Laker pitchers Zane Stahl and Gerrit Lyyski allowed three runs, two hits and struck out 13. 

Owen Smies led the Lakers’ hitting attack with three hits. Derrick Paggeot, Lyyski and Oliver Smies each had a pair of hits.

Spring Lake is now 20-13.

Also on Saturday at Petoskey, Forest Hills Eastern will take on Bay City John Glenn at 12:30 p.m. The winners of the two games will meet in the quarterfinals at 3 p.m. Saturday.
