CUSTER — After stumbling out of the blocks this season, the Mason County Eastern boys basketball team won its third game in a row, 65-40 over Cadillac Heritage Christian at home Monday.
It was the second game of a girls-boys doubleheader
“The last three or four games our energy level has been much better,” said Eastern coach Mark Forner. “We always like to say that our offense is built from our defense, and we came out very aggressive defensively.”
Eastern established control early, opening up a 19-4 lead after one. Despite scoring just four points in the final five minutes of the second period the Cardinals finished with a 14-8 edge and led, 33-12 at the half.
The Cardinals outscored Cadillac, 20-17 in the third and carried a 53-29 lead into the fourth period.
Clay Shoup fired in 28 points to lead the Cardinals, freshman Trent Hawke contributed 15 and Zach Howe added 14.
Now 5-8 on the season, the Cardinals return to West Michigan D League action at Big Rapids Crossroads Academy on Thursday.
