GRAND HAVEN – The Grand Haven girls basketball team gave a valiant effort against the Division 1 defending state champs Rockford on Tuesday night.
Rockford defeated GOK-Red contest.
The Bucs started slowly and went down 20-5 midway through the first quarter, but battled back to bring the score to 25-18 at the halftime break.
Mallory Woiteshek led Grand Haven with 14 points, six rebounds and three blocks. Maddie Schopf scored nine points, while Gillian Sorrelle chipped in nine points, three assists and three steals. Abbey Klumpel scored five points and grabbed six rebounds.
Grand Haven (14-3, 6-3) will travel to Holland West Ottawa on Friday for more conference play.
