WHITEHALL – The Whitehall boys’ basketball team kept its unbeaten season intact, but just barely.

The host Vikings escaped with a 64-62 victory over archrival Montague on Thursday night in the West Michigan Conference-Lakes Division.

The Vikings trailed 12-10 after the first quarter but found the upper hand in the second quarter to tie it up at the half, 26-26. The Vikings went on to outscore the Wildcats 38-36 over the second half which proved to be the difference.

The Wildcats’ Isaiah Atchison scored 16 points, while Owen Raeth and Kellen Francis scored 15 and 13 points, respectively.

Whitehall (18-0, 7-0) will host Manistee in conference play on Tuesday.

Montague (11-7, 4-5) will travel to Ludington on Tuesday for a league matchup.
