NORTON SHORES – The Mona Shores girls’ soccer team played to a 1-1 draw against Reeths-Puffer in the OK-Green opener on Tuesday evening.
The Sailors outshot the Rockets, but gave up the win with a minute left in the game.
“Credit to a Rocket team who never gave up,” said Mona Shores coach Dylan Darga. “We struggled to do the little things to help seal the victory.”
Ava Freye netted the lone goal for the Sailors with an assist from Addison Fisher about nine minutes into the second half.
The Rockets’ Alyssa Herbert tied the game late by knocking in a ball that popped loose from a scrum in front of the Sailors’ net.
“We still have some things to clean up, but also to play an intense, emotional game against such a quality team like Shores is a big task,” Reeths-Puffer coach Kody Harrell said. “However, we have already played some top area talent this season, so I think that prepared our girls for this game. And to feel that way in early April is huge, because that confidence is only going to keep growing for us going into mid-May around district time.”
Sara Carlson played the first half and Brenna Ackermann the second in net for the Rockets.
