MARYSVILLE – The Muskegon Community College Jayhawk softball team dropped their regional opener on Thursday.

The Jayhawks lost to Lake Michigan College, 5-1, and will play again at noon Friday in an elimination game. MCC will take on Cuyahoga Community College in the NJCAA Region XII tournament.

On Thursday, Brooklyn Galdeen started on the mound and allowed five runs, six hits and had two strikeouts. Lilli Goodrich came on in relief and gave up one hit, one walk and struck out two.

Olive Staal led the Jayhawk offense with two hits, including a solo home run.

Willo Staal, Jasmine Pastor and Galdeen each added a hit.

MCC is now 26-11.
