MARYSVILLE – The Muskegon Community College Jayhawks’ softball team saw its run in the NJCAA Region XII tournament come to an end on Friday afternoon.
After winning its first two games of the day, MCC fell to Mott Community College, 7-4.
The Jayhawks led 2-0 after three innings, but Mott scored seven unanswered runs to take a 7-2 lead into the bottom of the seventh inning.
The Jayhawks took a 1-0 lead in the opening inning on an RBI single by Brooklyn Galdeen. In the second inning, Andrea Romero scored on a Mott error and the Jayhawks led 2-0.
Muskegon CC rallied with two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning, but their rally fell three runs short.
Illeana Hatcher had an RBI single and Willo Staal plated a run with a groundout for the Jayhawks’ runs.
Hatcher, Jasmine Pastor and Olive Staal each had two hits, including a double, to lead the offense.
Lilli Goodrich pitched 4.2 innings and allowed three runs, one earned. She struck out four and walked three. Galdeen allowed three earned runs in 2.1 innings of work.
Mott will take on Lake Michigan in the championship game on Saturday morning.
