LUDINGTON — Ludington’s softball team split a non-conference doubleheader with visiting Grant on Friday, losing the first game 19-14 before winning the nightcap 11-10 at Oriole Field.
“The girls give us 110 percent,” said Ludington coach Sierra Holmes. “Many of them are playing through injuries and illnesses, and they really hung in there and battled throughout the doubleheader. They swung the bats aggressively and made the plays they needed to make. We were very proud of their effort.”
Jody Meisenheimer started in the pitcher’s circle for Ludington in the opener and gave up two hits, three walks and hit two batters before Madelyn Kenyon came on in relief.
Kenyon worked seven innings, giving up eight hits, eight walks and struck out two.
Keeley Curtis was the Orioles’ leading hitter going 3-for-5 with a double and two runs batted in. Meisenheimer finished 3-for-6 and Kenyon went 2-for-3 with a triple and double with one RBI.
Maddie Enbody had two hits but four RBI, while Sam Smeltzer also had two hits and two RBI. Ayiana Rangel, Jacee Cole and Taesyah Hendricks contributed two hits apiece.
Kenyon threw all five innings of the nightcap for the Orioles, giving up seven hits, six walks and struck out one.
Enbody finished 3-for-4 with one RBI to lead the Orioles at the plate. Rangel was 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI and Curtis went 2-for-3 with two RBI.
Ludington is now 3-22 overall.
